Blue Lightning by Ann Cleeves
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Ann Cleeves has created a truly believable protagonist in the person of Jimmy Perez. When he returns to Fair Isle, his birthplace, to introduce his fiancee to his parents, their visit is marred by the murder of a scientist from the island's birding center. Aside from a tightly plotted narrative, Cleeves' depiction of the island's environment and culture is as much a part of the story as the events themselves. This is the 4th installment in the Shetland Island series, and it's a gripping tale. After reading the 1st four novels, I also want to visit the islands!
